U.S. Mint
Project: Intranet Improvement
Client: U.S. Mint
At the start of this effort, the Mint had a static, largely moribund Intranet which had substantially fallen into disuse. The ResQSoft team identified the requirements for improved sites, including content management functionality and wrote a Technical Architecture document which specified how the site would operate. The team then proceeded to work with Mint staff to design a number of different "look and feel" templates, put them up on a development site, and assist in selecting a final look and feel for the site. Part of this selection process including putting up a survey which allowed users to preview different home page styles and vote on their favorites, as well as collecting comments on features that were liked and disliked.
Once the look and feel was decided, the team implemented a database to hold the content and wrote content loading software to load the content elements into the database. The content was then displayed using BasicLayout.jsp, the primary presentation template within the CMS. (The team also used a variation of this same CMS software in its survey application, which is a part of the base Intranet functionality but was also used separately to conduct two Treasury-wide surveys.
The ResQSoft team constantly responded to quick-response, tight deadline demands for new content and new site functionality at the U.S. Mint. For example, we put up Career Coach, a subsite on the Mint Intranet, in less than a week from start to finish, including numerous content revisions from functional user representatives and the General Counsel's office; Career Coach was featured on the Mint Intranet home page.
